Bringing Pilates Principles into My New Role

Stepping into a new chapter is always exciting, but it also comes with challenges, growth, and plenty of learning. I’ve recently started a new role as Performance Manager for a franchise brand of Pilates studios, and as I navigate this transition, I’ve found myself leaning on the very principles that make Pilates so powerful.

Pilates isn’t just about movement—it’s a philosophy, a mindset, and a way to approach challenges with strength and intention. Here’s how the six Pilates principles are guiding me in this new role:

Breathing: Staying Present in the Transition

Starting something new can feel overwhelming, but just like in Pilates, the key is to breathe. Deep, intentional breaths help me stay present, focused, and open to learning. When things get busy, I remind myself: inhale confidence, exhale doubt.

Concentration: Learning & Growing Every Day

In Pilates, focusing on each movement makes all the difference. In my new role, I’m applying the same principle—absorbing information, refining my approach, and staying fully engaged. Every conversation, challenge, and insight is an opportunity to grow.

Centering: Finding Strength in My Foundation

Pilates teaches that all movement comes from the core, the powerhouse of the body. In my role, my “core” is my experience, my values, and my passion for the Pilates industry. When I stay grounded in these, I can lead with confidence and clarity.

Control: Navigating the Learning Curve with Intention

Transitions can feel like a rush of new information, but just like in Pilates, control matters more than speed. Instead of trying to master everything at once, I’m focusing on steady, deliberate steps—understanding the brand, supporting studios, and building strong strategies.

Precision: Focusing on What Matters Most

Success isn’t about doing everything all at once; it’s about doing the right things well. Pilates teaches that precise movement leads to better results, and I’m applying the same approach here—being thoughtful about my impact and making sure every effort adds value.

Flow: Embracing the Journey

Pilates is all about graceful transitions, moving from one exercise to the next with fluidity. This role is a new transition for me, and I’m choosing to embrace the journey—adapting, learning, and growing along the way.

Starting this new role has reminded me why I love Pilates—it’s not just a workout; it’s a way to approach life, work, and challenges with strength and balance. I’m excited for this next chapter and all the opportunities ahead!
